Jason Gareth James

Jason has worked with electricity to make art for over 30 years. His primary practice is designing lights and projections for performing and visual arts with a focus on new Australian works and projects with social benefits. He has won three Tasmanian Theatre Awards for lighting design. In 2025 he designed lights for Feral for Gold Santiago (Sydney) and Finger Puppets(Singapore), Hannah Maloney’s Time Rebel for Ten Days on the Island, Relâche—The Last Dance on Earth for Second Echo Ensemble, In the Belly of the Whale for Wooden Boats Festival, and Shakespeare R&J for FloMo Creative. He is currently lighting designer, tour manager,and production manager of The Adventures of Peacock, Chicken and the Pony they Rode Upon for Second Echo Ensemble. In addition to design work, he is involved in video production, project management, production management, tour management, making music, teaching and public art installations.
