Steamworks are excited to announce Sally Richardson has been appointed Executive Producer of Ten Days on the Island Festival in Tasmania.

Lindy Hume AM, Artistic Director, Ten Days on the Island stated, "I am thrilled to be working alongside the brilliant Sally Richardson as we bring the 2023 Festival to life. Sally is a creative leader whose beautiful work I have admired for decades, someone who brings to the role of Executive Producer a wealth of experience, ideas, empathy and deep understanding of collaboration and community.”

Sally is one of WA’s most experienced and respected independent producers, with vast experience as a creative leader working across all aspects of the arts. As a director and producer Sally has worked alongside teams of multi-disciplined artists: designers, performers, writers, composers and filmmakers, collaborating with emerging and established artists, companies, business and the wider community across Australia.

She has produced work for Black Swan Theatre Company, Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company, Malthouse Theatre, The Flying Fruitfly Circus, The National Institute of Circus Arts, Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts, Performing Lines, CIRCA and NAISDA, with productions awarded Helpmann, Green Room, Blue Room, and Dance Australia Critics Choice.

Recent successes as a director include the ground-breaking dance theatre work JULIA (2021 STCWA), Savage Grace by Alana Valentine (STCWA) and International digital dance collaboration Feminism Has No Borders which premiered at the 2021 Perth Festival.

Perth Festival's Artistic Director, Iain Grandage, says of Sally, "Sally Richardson is one of the country’s finest creative collaborators, a compassionate and imaginative powerhouse who draws truth and power from all who have the privilege of working with her".

Sally has developed and produced over 30 original works through her companies Steamworks Arts and MAXIMA Circus, touring work regionally, nationally and internationally including work for Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, OzAsia, Beijing and Shanghai Festivals. She currently serves as Deputy Chair of CAN (Community Arts Network), a board director of Ausdance National, on Black Swan Theatre Company’s artistic advisory group and on the LPA Helpmann Awards Theatre panel.

“I am excited to be taking up this role with Ten Days on the Island. The Festival is a wonderful platform for dialogue, discussion and exploration, where we are able to confront challenging truths about the past, our future, and our sustainability. This is the great work Ten Days is doing and I am thrilled to be joining the team.” (Sally Richardson)
