TROPHY Development in Burnie

We are thrilled to be in artists in residence creating new work TROPHY with local partners Burnie Arts over the next few weeks. With support from Arts Tasmania the creative team are flying in from across Australia to continue the development of this exciting dance theatre performance.
We have been coordinating on the ground with the council and local sporting clubs, and are excited to be working both on and off the field at West Park Oval and at the Burnie Arts centre.
The work is about women, sport and competition, and the team will have an opportunity to explore the potential of an exciting site responsive format as they develop their ideas in various locations and spaces around this busy, active sporting venue.
Director Sally Richardson: As part of our research, we have been chatting with local players, coaches, and supporters, from across the sporting codes, including members from the Burnie Dockers Senior Womens team, while also exploring the historic collection of archival imagery that is held by the Burnie Arts Museum. We look forward to deepening our engagement as we learn more about the role of local sport in this community, and the direct experience of women players. Just having us working on site will generate interest and perhaps raise a few eyebrows! We are excited to interact with the site, and see what evolves and what we learn through the process.
Burnie Arts are hosting a Community Morning Tea, and there will be a progress showing at the end of the residency. More information and registration for these FREE events is available Here
